
Dr. Gerald Horn is a Founder and Scientific Advisor at LENZ Therapeutics and has decades of experience as an ophthalmologist, laser vision specialist, inventor, entrepreneur, and business leader. His expertise in front-of-the-eye conditions and passion for drug development led him to develop our Aceclidine based eye drop and co-found Presbyopia Therapies, which is now LENZ Therapeutics.
In addition to his work at LENZ, he has spent nearly 25 years at Lasik Plus, performing over 95,000 laser vision procedures over his career and is currently Medical Director. He is also co-founder and Chief Scientific Officer at Retinal Therapies and is the inventor of their topical and intravitreal injection treatment for wet Age-Related Macular Degeneration. Prior to his current work, he invented Luminesse, an eye whitener. Luminesse is now licensed to Bausch under the name Lumify®. Dr. Horn was founder of Ocularis Pharma, now Ocuphire Pharma, where he invented Nyxol®, a preservative-free ophthalmic solution that inhibits the contraction of smooth muscle of the iris resulting in better contrast sensitivity and visual acuity. Prior to his work at Lasik Plus, Dr. Horn was an ophthalmologist at the Horn Eye Center and Chicago Eye Institute. He has over 70 issued and pending patents covering a wide range of ophthalmic drugs and over-the-counter products. Dr. Horn received his undergraduate degree in Biochemistry from Northwestern University and his medical degree in Ophthalmology from the University of Illinois College of Medicine. He completed an internship at Rush-Presbyterian St. Luke’s Hospital and went on to complete several mini-fellowships in LASIK, radial keratotomy, ALK, and epikeratophakia.
